Robot Rockers

Five Songs continued this week, with the theme ‘songs you’d play if you found out your loved one is a robot’. We worked through the theme in the 5 stages of grief. They were:

  • Denial, I Am Not A Robot by Marina and the Diamonds
  • Anger, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
  • Bargaining, I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor by The Arctic Monkeys
  • Depression, Paranoid Android by Radiohead
  • Acceptance, Sex Machine by James Brown

Charlie joined us in the studio for a chat and a guest request, and we all threw some robot boogie shapes…

Ben, Charlie and Dave throwing robot shapes around the place.

Debut Show: Top songs of 2010!

Hello world! This is Ben and Dave, coming at ya from the world wide interweb. On our first show – live on air at 10AM UK time, every Friday, and replaying at the ICradio web site at your demand – we revealed our favourite 5 tracks of 2010, along with some honourable and guilty mentions.

In no particular order, we chose:

  • Holiday – Vampire Weekend
  • American Slang – The Gaslight Anthem
  • Melancholy Hill – Gorillaz
  • Bloodbuzz Ohio – The National
  • Fuck You – Cee-Lo Green

An Honourable Mention for Best Party Tune went to Yolanda Be Cool’s runaway anthem, “We No Speak Americano”, introduced by the lovely Polly, our first guest (and radio-guide).

We then shared our Guilty Pleasures… Dave chose Drunk Girls, by LCD Soundsystem, while Ben got truly guilty with Pass Out by Tinie Tempah. And the show was closed out with a teaser of next week’s program: 5 songs to play when you find out your girlfriend (or other romantic partner) is a robot!

Do you agree or disagree with our choices? What were your top tunes of 2010? And if you found out your partner was a robot, what songs would you play?
